The credit goes to Kendall for getting us involved in this hobby of
raising and showing rabbits. She joined Jasper Ridge 4-H club when she
was 9 and the only project she wanted to take was “Rabbits”. As fate
would have it, the rabbit project leader had just quit, so unless
someone volunteered to be the project leader (“please, Mom, please”)
there would be no more rabbit project. Of course, Mom (aka Carol)
volunteered and now “Rabbits” is the most popular project in the
club. Initially, we had a single pet rabbit but once we attended a show,
we were all bit by the “rabbit show bug”. Adam and Kendall agreed to
raise and show the rabbits together as AK's Hoppitry Loppitry. They
started out with Holland Lops and then got interested in American Fuzzy
Lops also. Currently we breed and show only American Fuzzy Lops
and Netherland Dwarfs.
Our American Fuzzy Lop breeding program include animals from Shari Coop, Brian
Hartzell, and
Mollie and Leslie Dorrance. Kelley and Bob Tapp have been wonderful advisers,
friends and competitors in breeding and showing Fuzzies. For one
show season, Adam and I showed as a team with Leslie Dorrance (2003-04).
When Leslie decided to retire from rabbits, we incorporated many of her
excellent show and breeding stock into our breeding program.
Adam is currently attending medical school at Drexel School of
Medicine, in Philadelphia, PA. Although he isn't home often
and can't attend many shows he is still showing Fuzzy Lops as a team
with his mom, Carol.
